James Corden gives huge hint about future of Gavin and Stacey favourite as new episode confirmed

James Corden got fans buzzing about what could be in store for the Gavin and Stacey characters

Whether you’re a fan or not, Gavin and Stacey ranks number one in the hearts of many UK folk, so you can imagine the delight when it was announced we have another episode coming our way.

Since its end in 2010, a lot of people have been asking if the show could make a return in the future and our prayers were finally answered yesterday (3 May) when James Corden and Ruth Jones announced the ‘last ever’ episode of Gavin and Stacey.

Hopefully this will be the episode where we finally find out what happened on Bryn and Jason’s fishing trip...

Despite previously denying the rumours it was coming back, the creators shared the cover of the script reading: “Gavin and Stacey: the finale.”

But James Corden has sent the rumour mill into overdrive with a follow-up Instagram post.

The Smithy star shared a fan-made art piece of his Gavin and Stacey character and co-creator Ruth Jones’ Nessa.

The 45-year-old shared the beautiful artwork by Lucy Claire Dunbar which shows the pair cuddling, with the show’s theme song lyrics below: “Tell me tomorrow, I'll wait by the window for you.”

This could be a hint that Nessa and Smithy finally get engaged after Nessa proposed to him in the 2019 Christmas Special, which left us on a cliff-hanger.

Of course, fans were over the moon about Corden sharing the picture and rushed to his comments to share their joy over the news about another episode.

One person wrote: “OK you can just fast forward to December now for me nothing in-between even matters'; 'IT'S ALL THE DRAMA MICKKKKKKKK.”

Another commented: “Tell me at Christmas we will find out what happened on the fishing trip'; 'Is this a clue'; 'I can't wait for the final but I also don't want it to end”.

The news of the revival comes after it was reported that Netflix was in a bidding war for the right to the special with BBC.

A source close to the drama told The Sun that Netflix was desperate for the rights.

They said: “They held conversations with Netflix who threw everything at them to land what is seen as a gem of British comedy.

“James, Ruth and the team were effectively offered a multi-million pound one-off deal, and were promised it would open the show up to a whole new international audience.

“Obviously it was tempting, but they felt Gavin and Stacey belonged to the BBC — and the nation, really. The optics wouldn’t have been great had they ‘sold out’ so they went with their hearts, not the cash.”

Get your stockings, Christmas decs and turkey sandwiches out because we’re all ready for December.
