We all know where chickens come from but this is unexpected

This is the moment a woman found a dead baby chick as she cracked her egg in the pan to fry it:

The TikToker - who goes by the handle @its_mxdson - shared the clip of what looks like a small embryo on the video sharing platform before another showed her burying it.

Safe to say although we all know where chickens come from, you don't really expect to find an embryo when you crack open an egg.

She shared the footage alongside the caption: "What is this?"

The voiceover added: "I cracked my egg. What the farq is this? I am officially put off eggs."

The video has been viewed over 2.8 million times since she posted it four days ago. It's racked up nearly 105,000 likes and has more that 6,900 comments.

Responding to the footage, one person wrote: "This is my worse [sic] fear when cooking eggs."

Another suggested the woman who shared the clip should 'just go vegan' which she said is something she's considering as 'it wouldn't be a bad idea'.

A third didn't see the issue, writing: "You got a chicken nugget and egg all in one. Be grateful."

Trying to get to the bottom of how this happened, another TikTok user asked: "Where do you get your eggs from? Fertilized eggs are extremely rare to come buy [sic] if the egg is bought commercially... got it from a farm market?"

She replied saying: "We got given them, from a farm. It's free range eggs," before adding: "I've always had free range eggs & this is the first!"

In a follow up video, the original poster showed that she had buried the egg/chick/embryo, telling her followers: "I decided to bury it."

Commenting on the burial video, one commentor said: "Awww that's really sweet. It happens rarely, but it does happen."

Another asked whether the chick was moving, to which @its_mxdison_ wrote: "No movement. These are free range eggs too, bruh! I'm heartbroken."

Earlier this year, a teen from Fife in Scotland bought some eggs from Waitrose and one hatched. She now has a pet duck called Charlie...

Lucy Callaghan posted her journey with Charlie using the TikTok name @charliethemotherducker and people can't get enough of her feathery friend.

Unlike the fried egg embryo, Lucy put her egg into a rotating incubator in order to keep the egg warm so it could hatch. There were no fried egg surprises here.
