Everyone loves a freebie, right? And during lockdown, chances are that many people missed a birthday - right again?

Well things aren't so doom and gloom because if you're one of those people that had to celebrate being another year older while we were all stuck indoors, then you can get your hands on a free sweet treat from Greggs.

The nation's favourite bakery will be letting customers receive their free birthday item until the end of 2020 since outlets were closed during lockdown. Winner winner, cookie for dinner.

The reward is available for those who have signed up to the Greggs' Rewards via the free app and you'll get a voucher for a sweet treat costing up to £1.

This will include things like cookies, doughnuts and yum yums. Oh and, even better, you don't have to buy anything else to redeem it. I mean, you probably will get other bits, but you're not obliged to.

If your birthday fell during the period Greggs outlets were closed due to coronavirus - between 24 March and 3 July - then you'll be able to redeem the voucher until the end of the year. Usually you only have one calendar month to redeem your voucher after you get it on your birthday.

According to The Sun, all you have to do is show the voucher on your phone when you pop in to your local Greggs. Or just the next Greggs you happen to pass.

If you want some more good news, the bakery confirmed that the mighty Festive Bake will be returning on 5 November. Maybe leave redeeming your birthday doughnut until then and have an incredible day where food is concerned.

Festive Bake feels.
Greggs

Tweeting the news on 18 August, Greggs wrote: "If anything can save 2020, it's the Festive Bake #79Days." The countdown is on.

While some Twitter users moaned that it was too early to be thinking about anything Christmassy in August, others cheekily begged Greggs to bring the release forward.

One commented: "Personally I think you should bring them out early this year. Hate having to wait a year for them. Best thing since sliced bread."

Another suggested: "I think to enhance national morale and to encourage a feeling of unity and solidarity you need to bring the release forward - the chancellor should give everyone a FB code to receive 1 free bake... and we will gorge ourselves on its deliciousness and forget the perils facing us."

The iconic bake combines pieces of chicken breast, sage and onion stuffing and sweetcure bacon in a creamy sage and cranberry sauce, all encased in golden puff pastry with a crunchy crumb topping.
