The End of The F***ing World will return to our screens on 4 November.

News that the hit comedy had be commissioned for another series was confirmed earlier this year, but until now a date had not been set.

The long-awaited news was announced on Channel 4 this evening during the ad break between Hollyoaks and the news. (DISCLAIMER: I don't watch Hollyoaks).

It will follow on from the runaway success of the first series which scored the rarely seen maximum score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes last year.

A synopsis released for the first series reads: "Based on the award-winning graphic novel, adapted by acclaimed newcomer Charlie Covell, the eight episode first season follows James (Alex Lawther, Black Mirror) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden, Penny Dreadful) - a self-proclaimed psychopath and a foul-mouthed rebel fed-up with her boring life.

"The two embark on a roadtrip to find a better life, and escape the impending doom of adulthood. As their chaotic journey unfolds, it becomes apparent that James and Alyssa have crossed a line and have no choice but to take it as far as they can..."

Speaking to Digital Spy, Channel 4's content boss Ian Katz said the new series will air on their station first and won't land on Netflix - in the UK at least - for another year.

He said: "Next time we'll run the whole series on the channel then there will be a conventional hold back of more than a year before people see it on Netflix. It really bugs me that people think that show is a Netflix show, I really want to reclaim ownership of it - it's absolutely a Channel 4 show."

And while not much is known about where the second season will take the story aside from the fact it picks up two years after the first series, the show's star Lawther said co-star Barden had ideas of how it could start.

He said: "Jess [Barden] used to talk about... there are some themes in series one where we're on the beach, and everything's coming to an end.

"She was saying how she would like the second series to start with a musical on the beach - taking a role in a musical version of The End of the F***ing World, which I would be completely up for!

"I'm not sure how Charlie [Covell, series writer] will take that, but we're going to push that idea as far as we can."

But we'll have to wait a little while longer to see whether she got her way.

The End of The F***ing World will air on Channel 4 from 4 November.
