If you've still got an appetite for conspiracy theories, this film could be right up your street

If you've somehow still got room for more conspiracy theories after watching that 'insane' new Netflix documentary, there's a film that might also tickle your fancy.

American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders is all that anyone has been talking about since it landed on the streaming platform on 28 February, but most people have now blitzed through all the episodes.

Take a look at the trailer here:

After binge-watching the chilling four-part docuseries, created by Zachary Treitz and Christian Hansen, it's hard to just resume your normal TV regimen like you haven't just seen something that's really quite terrifying.

It delves into the disturbing case of Danny Casolaro, an investigative journalist who had been looking into a 'multi-tentacled conspiracy' which he dubbed 'The Octopus' before he was found dead at the age of 44 in August 1991.

His death was ruled a suicide, but his loved ones feared there was foul play involved and suspect he may have been silenced as he was on the cusp of exposing an array of 'hidden secrets'

Treitz and Hansen pick up where Casolaro's investigation left off, taking viewers down even more rabbit holes as they attempt to piece together the conspiracy theory and all of its tentacles.

Netflix fans have been raving about American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders on social media, dubbing it 'jaw dropping', 'informative' and 'terrifying' - while others said they 'couldn't sleep' after watching the entirety of it.

Noticing all the chatter online, one viewer decided to share a recommendation for a movie which has a similar vibe to the chilling conspiracy series.

A post on X read: "After watching The Octopus Murders on Netflix, I thought I’d watch this movie...it’s been a minute since I’ve watched it. Snowden by @TheOliverStone."

If you haven't heard of Snowden before, buckle up, as it's quite the spectacular story.

Oliver Stone's biographical thriller, based on the books The Snowden Files and Time of the Octopus, was first released back in 2016, but has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity amid the conspiracy theory hype.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Edward Snowden, a former CIA contractor who turned whistleblower and leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency.

The official synopsis for the film reads: "Disillusioned with the intelligence community, top contractor Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) leaves his job at the National Security Agency.

"He now knows that a virtual mountain of data is being assembled to track all forms of digital communication - not just from foreign governments and terrorist groups, but from ordinary Americans.

"When Snowden decides to leak this classified information, he becomes a traitor to some, a hero to others and a fugitive from the law."

Fans of the flick and Stone's work reckon it is a brilliant film, with one even dubbing it a 'masterpiece'.

One said: "Snowden is another version of Robin Hood. This movie is a masterpiece."

Another added: "I have a lot of respect for the courage of the people who made this film happen and the actor playing Edward Snowden."

And a third added: "In my opinion, Snowden is the best true story movie I've ever seen. Period."
