Louis Theroux was forced to think on his feet very fast after accidentally insulting Dame Judi Dench.

The documentary-maker met with the Oscar-winning star for an episode of his Louis Theroux Interviews last year - but he managed to get on the wrong side of her mid-interview.

Awkward, eh?

In the clip, Dame Judi tells Theroux about her early years, explaining that she owned a whopping 17 cats ‘during the war’.

Theroux then swiftly put his foot in it by asking: “During which war?”

The 89-year-old looked horrified as she fired back: “Well, the Second World War. Louis!”

Trying to recover, Theroux said: "I didn't mean the First World War, I didn't mean it like that I was just confused.

She then jokingly order him to get ‘out’ before turning to the camera and asking: “Am I the only person who heard that? ‘Which war?’”

Thinking on his feet, Theroux quickly said: “I thought you meant the Vietnam war.”

Setting the James Bond star off giggling as she corrected: “Oh. No, the Second World War.”

Theroux then cheekily asked: “Did I recover?”

Although the episode aired over a year ago, a clip of the funny exchange has been doing the rounds on social media.

Commenting on the clip, one fan said: “The most warming and british argument ever recorded," while another wrote: “OK that was funny. She was about to call 007 to take care of him.”

While someone else joked: “The man gets away with murder.”

Theroux recently revealed he’d shaved his eyebrows off due to his ongoing struggles with alopecia.

At the beginning of this year, Theroux first opened up about ‘probably’ experiencing hair loss with his beard growing in patches and also losing parts of his eyebrows.

And earlier this month, the 53-year-old revealed he had decided to shave off his eyebrows completely.

Dame Judi was less than impressed with Theroux’s question.

He wrote in the caption: “Can you tell what’s different? I’ve shaved off my eyebrows! I’m also thinking about getting micro blading soon.

“In the meanwhile I figure no eyebrows is better than patchy eyebrows. Do you agree?”

The 53-year-old previously revealed he was losing hair from his head as well as his beard and brows so was taking ‘vitamin D, iron, and something called Biotin’ in attempt to combat it.

Having previously lost parts of his brows, he wrote in the past: “I’d like to know how I’m supposed to continue a career based largely on raising and lowering different eyebrows WITHOUT ANY EYEBROWS!! #alopecia.

“I’m seriously thinking of getting them tattooed back on but it feels like a big step! Thoughts?”
