Greggs Sparks Fresh Controversy With 'Ham And Pineapple Bake' Teaser

The bakery certainly knows how to get people talking

They say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and it seems the good folks at Greggs are firm believers in this saying.

Just as the bakery seemed to be drifting away from the headlines - following the release of their unexpectedly controversial vegan sausage roll - it's stirred things up once again.

This time around, the lords of lunchtime have used the classic 'ham and pineapple' debate to get people going. If, somehow, you are unaware of any debate related to ham and pineapple, it's basically all about whether or not it is good or acceptable to have a ham and pineapple pizza, also known as a 'Hawaiian'.

For some reason, people seem to think one of two extremes: either it is utterly disgusting and unacceptable, or absolutely glorious (the latter is of course correct).

Now, Greggs has got involved with the pizza topping based drama with a tweet insinuating the possibility of a ham and pineapple bake. The tweet shows a picture of a page of sketches entitled 'Bake Inventions', with 'ham + pineapple' highlighted in a box. Accompanying the picture is a caption that reads: "If you could invent a new bake with ANY filling, what would you choose?"

Inevitably, the tweet prompted all manner of extreme responses.

On the one hand, you've got the rallying cries of the vehemently anti ham and pineapple posse. A sample of the posse's tweets reads as follows:

"If ham and pineapple flavours come to Greggs I'll never go there again."

"Literally anything other than ham and pineapple you heathens."

"If you're actually serious about ham and pineapple, it will be a national emergency."

And then on the other hand, there were those extremely excited by the prospect:

"I would be ALL OVER a ham and pineapple one, what a dream."

"HAM AND PINEAPPLE PIZZA FLAVOUR!"

"Ham & Pineapple, nom nom nom."

Whether such a bake becomes a reality remains to be seen, but stranger things have happened (like the vegan sausage roll, for instance).
