The Raccoon That Scaled A 200ft Building Is Alive And Well

The little trash panda that could

Sometimes, when the world really needs it, a hero arises. Sometimes it is a person who goes above and beyond to restore our faith in the world, other times it is a tiny raccoon climbing up the side of a giant building in Minnesota.

Wait, what?

Yes, a brave raccoon got stuck on a ledge of the UBS Building in Minnesota and decided - as all heroes do - that the only way was up. And so, the heroes journey began.

Without having eaten for about two days he set off up the side of the tower, pausing only to scratch himself and stretch out on the occasional window ledge.

Little did he know, but on his way to the summit of the 200ft building he had amassed quite a crowd, and everyone was rooting for him.

He even got his own hashtag - #mpr raccoon - which, if you aren't familiar with the USA's non-profit radio stations, stands for Minnesota Public Radio.

There were thousands of people online charting his progress up to the top of the tower and several people within the tower who were documenting his progress. Apparently, none of the windows that he passed on his way up could open to let him in.

Also, would you want a starving and terrified raccoon suddenly flying in through your office window? Probably not.

Anyway, whilst he was on his epic journey the authorities devised to help him out as best they could. Live traps were set at the top of the building and a celebratory meal of wet cat food was prepared for the conquering hero.

All that he had to do was make it the final way to the summit without, you know, plummeting to his death 20-odd storeys below.

By this point he had his own Twitter account (in fact, by now he has several) and even celebrity interest.

James Gunn, the Guardians of the Galaxy writer and actor, said: "I'll donate a thousand bucks to the non political charity of choice to anyone who saves this raccoon. I can't handle this. Poor dude."

Well, get your wallet out Gunny, because he only went and made it up.

Yes, after a short nap on the 23rd floor he eventually crested the edge of the building's roof at about 02:30am this morning, to audible exhales of breath from all of his many internet followers.

After chowing down on some cat food, he was then captured, put in a cage and taken to what we are assured is a safe location.
