Woman who moved into haunted Enfield house must keep curtains closed as council sent her warning

A woman who moved into a haunted house in London has to keep her curtains closed after the council warned her about spooky goings on.

The terrifying story dates back to the 1970s when the Hodgson family lived in the property, which is located in Enfield.

It was during this time that they revealed Janet Hodgson - who was just a teenager at the time - had been possessed by the spirit of an old man who lived in the house.

She was even pictured levitating from her bed during the eerie goings on.

Meanwhile, the family claimed objects could be seen regularly flying across the room - allegedly being moved by the ghost.

The events even inspired TV shows and films, one of which - an Apple TV+ movie named The Enfield Poltergeist - was released last year.

Janet amazingly lived to tell the tale, with her appearing in last year's Apple TV+ docu-drama to speak about her experience.

"It’s something you never forget. It’s something you just think of, it just comes flowing back," she said.

"You never feel like you’re free of it. I don’t like to say this, you know, but I feel it even now. It’s never left me.”

Fast forward 50 years and the house is basically unrecognisable - but many wonder if the ghost still haunts the property.

The three-bed house is now occupied by a mum and her children, who were actually warned by the council that the house was haunted.

"The council had warned us that the house was haunted. But I am a God fearing woman and wasn't worried," the woman told the MailOnline.

"They did ask me if I was worried and I told them it didn't concern me.

"But the first time we stepped into the house to look around I did feel goosebumps. That was it. I did not feel any evil spirits and there has never been a ghost.

"I don't really believe in ghosts, and anyway God will always protect me. If I did not have God on my side I would not have taken the house."

Although it seems the ghost may have moved on, it hasn't stopped people trying to catch a glimpse of the famous property.

In fact, the family - who have been living in the house for five years now - pull the curtains in the downstairs and upstairs windows shut to stop people looking in.

"We have had people from China and other countries who just turn up and bang on the front door. Some ghost hunters have even turned up at 3am and want to be let in," she said.

"They want to come in and see for themselves. I just send them away, and have had to call the police.

"They all want to look round the house, but this is where we live and I do not want them here."
