Five people have died and 21 left injured after a mass shooting near Midland and Odessa in West Texas.

The gunman was killed by police after being chased down into a parking lot.

According to reports the gunman opened fire after being pulled over police at around 3.17pm local time.

As yet, no details have been released about those killed.

However, according to a report in the Guardian one of those injured was a 17-month-old boy, who was shot in the face.

Jerry Morales, the mayor of Midland, told CNN that not all the injuries were from gunshots.

The Texas governor, Greg Abbott, said in a statement: "The first lady and I are heartbroken over this senseless and cowardly attack, and we offer our unwavering support to the victims, their families, and all the people of Midland and Odessa."
