Holiday Makers Scramble For Sunbeds In Spanish Sun

Chill out, guys

Obviously, it's important to get a decent spot for your sunbed at poolside, but there's a point at which going to extreme lengths for a guaranteed day in the sun becomes a bit sad.

If you want an example of holiday preparation turning tragic, take a look at the recently-emerged video below, showing holiday-makers sprinting to get a bed as soon as the pool area was opened.

Clearly that lot need a chill pill to go with their poolside San Miguels.

Apparently there's a reenactment of the Olympic 100m every day at the four-star Servatur Waikiki Gran Canaria, in Playa del Ingles in the south of the island.

In many cases, guests lay their towels down and head in for breakfast before returning later in the day.

And if you're thinking that it's an example of the age-old stereotype of sunbed-nabbing Germans then you'd be wrong. According to workers at the resort, the worst offenders are in fact Brits.

A source at the hotel told the Sun: "I know the British have traditionally regarded the Germans as the worst offenders but our experience is that they have breakfast first and look for a sunbed after.

"The pool opens at 8am and there's always a queue of people waiting at this time of the year.

"It's a bit hard to fathom really because there are enough sunbeds to go round.

"We get guests laying their towels out in the morning and sometimes disappearing again 'til the afternoon.

"The problem has been getting so bad recently that hotel staff are now under instructions to remove towels on sunbeds which have been unattended for two or three hours."

If you're wondering what type of place the hotel is, the Servatur Waikiki Gran Canaria states on its website that it's 'perfect for families looking for a holiday experience full of options'.

It adds: "Our hotel is a mix of sun, fun and numerous leisure activities."
