The Covenant is now rated as Ritchie's best movie on Rotten Tomatoes

Rotten Tomatoes has rated Guy Ritchie's recent war movie higher than some of his most acclaimed work.

The film director has a pretty impressive catalogue of movies, including thriller The Gentlemen and 1998 movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

But it seems his most recent work his pipped them both to the post.

The film, which was released in 2023, is now ranked at his most critically acclaimed movie on the popular review aggregator website.

It's earned an 83 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Gentlemen and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels both have a score of 75 percent.

The Covenant stars Jake Gyllenhaal as US Army sergeant John Kinley and Dar Salim, who plays Kinley's Afghan interpreter, Ahmed.

The war movie follows the pair as they work together to bring down the Taliban. But when Kinley is injured during an ambush, Ahmed risks his life to save Kinley's, transporting him over mountainous terrain by foot and ensuring he survives.

Ahmed manages to transport Kinley back to safety, but once the sergeant has returned to the States, he learns that Ahmed and his family were not given US visas as they were promised.

Despite begging his superiors, the forces refuse to intervene and much to the desperate worry of his family, Kinley returns to Afghanistan to save Ahmed and his family before the Taliban reaches them.

The movie is fictional, but it has an important message.

When the US army withdrew from Afghanistan three years ago, hundreds of interpreters were abandoned, instead of receiving the US visas that they were promised.

It's reported by non-profit No One Left Behind that at least 300 were killed by the Taliban since 2001 because of their association with the US.
