HBO has announced there will be a celebration to mark the ten year anniversary of Game of Thrones. The show first aired on 17 April 2011 and it quickly became one of the largest events in television history, culminating in around 45 million viewers per episode for the final season in the US alone and gaining a global army of fans.

HBO will be launching The Iron Anniversary - a month-long celebration to commemorate the series, engage passionate fans, and ignite audiences' excitement for the next iteration of the franchise, with House of the Dragon expected to begin production this year.

There will be a marathon of the seasons as well as special edition products for fans to feast their eyes on throughout the month.

This will be perfect for die hard fans wishing to re-watch the entire thing and also newbies who will use this opportunity to get up to date with what the world has been talking about for the last decade.

Beginning 10 April, HBO will launch the Game of Thrones 'MaraThrone' with all episodes of the show from the very beginning airing on HBO2 starting at 10am ET (3pm UK), challenging fans to continue to binge watch all 73 episodes of the series on HBO Max while raising money for select global charities.

For two weeks, cast members will rally the fans to contribute to one of ten noble causes: Women for Women International, World Central Kitchen, Conservation International, International Rescue Committee (IRC), UNICEF, FilmAid International, SameYou, Royal Mencap Society, National Urban League and The Trevor Project.

Not stopping there, later in the month HBO will surprise three couples who were married in Westeros-themed ceremonies with special anniversary gifts of their own: 'Thrones'-branded barrels of wine, custom chalices, and elaborate cakes designed in partnership with local bakeries to represent the houses of Targaryen, Stark and Lannister.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: "It's more than just a TV SHOW! It is a way of life and that we have lived during the ten years. Thank you for this historic SHOW!"

Another added: "Let's celebrate the show that changed the history of television forever."

While a third commented: "WOW 10 years already? Jeeez. TV was never the same after GoT premiered. The bar was set. I'll never forget watching my friends' faces when their faves died/didn't die. The watch parties! The theorizing! GoT was an experience. I love this show."
