Sam Thompson reveals ‘heartbreaking regret’ he has from mistake on I’m A Celebrity

The King of the Jungle hasn't stopped buzzing about his time on the show, but he there is one thing he wishes he could change

Sam Thompson managed to take home the jungle crown on Sunday (10 December) and beat boxer Tony Bellew to become this year's winner of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

The radio presenter said his time on the ITV show was a 'dream come true' and gushed about his experience in Australia alongside his famous campmates, saying it was 'the coolest thing in the world'.

Nothing could bring him down from the high of winning, as the former Made In Chelsea star said he had never been 'as happy in his life' - but after the shock wore off, he did admit he has one regret about his time in the jungle.

As you may be aware, Sam is in a relationship with ex-Love Islander Zara McDermott, who was unable to meet her man at the end of the bridge to celebrate his TV triumph in person.

His best pal Pete Wicks took on the responsibility instead as she couldn't commit to flying over due to her hectic work schedule, as the I'm A Celeb final kind of clashes with the culmination of this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

So as Sam and Zara have both been super busy, it's safe to say they have a lot of quality time to catch up on.

He realised he could have attempted to keep a line of communication open after arriving in camp though, and it dawned on him that he hadn't organised a secret signal to send to his girlfriend like some of the other celebs.

Viewers spotted that JLS' Marvin Hulmes seemed to be covertly communicating with his wife Rochelle, and three kids Alaia-Mai, Valentina and Blake back home by tapping his right fist against his heart.

Each time the camera panned to him during the live evictions, the singer made the gesture four times to say hi to each of his children and spouse, which is something Sam hadn't thought about.

He revealed that he was left heartbroken when he realised that him and Zara didn't have a secret signal to use throughout his three-week stint on the show before he was crowned King of the Jungle.

The 31-year-old told the Mirror: "Viewers spotted the JLS star touching his heart with his right fist every time his name was called out during the live evictions.

"Marvin told me that he did it so his kids and Rochelle knew it was for them, and that he was OK. I was like 'Oh sh** I haven’t come up with any!'"

Former Eastenders star Danielle Harold also reportedly sent her loved ones back home secret signals during the live broadcast bits as she was spotted 'touching her hat a lot'.
