Lad labelled a hero after 'revealing recipe' to make 'expensive' Five Guys fries at home

"Out here doing the Lord's work."

Not all heroes wear capes. Some make TikTok videos telling us how to make our very own Five Guys fries at home.

The American fast food company has come under fire in recent days for the cost of its food. It wasn't known for being the most budget-friendly quick option in the first place, with McDonald's costing you well less for an equivalent meal, meaning customers must really be annoyed.

No one is doubting it tastes good - it is rather delicious and a quality cheat meal - but the cost is making it rather unenjoyable for some.

One receipt has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter) showing a Bacon Cheeseburger priced at $12.49 (£9.83), a small portion of fries for $5.19 (£4.08) and a regular fizzy drink for $2.89 (£2.27). Add on tax and a tip and the meal came to a grand total of $24.10 (£18.97).

Five Guys has previously explained why its menu costs what it does and comes in at a larger expense than rival fast food businesses. The firm's CEO, Jerry Murrell, said it has perks like fresh bread that is shipped to stores every day.

Over on TikTok, user @jordan_the_stallion8 is known for being the self-appointed 'President of the Fast Foods Secrets Club', regularly sharing tips on how to re-create food at home that tastes like it's from Maccies, Burger King or another industry rival.

On the topic of Five Guys, he has taken on Five Guys' fries after complaining at it costing $4 for a small fries.

In the video, he said: "Five guys is really good at painting this illusion that customers are getting a good deal for what they're giving out to people.

"And I messaged Five Guys and I asked - them why are your fries so expensive? One small fries is $4, right.

"Well they told me it's because nobody can duplicate their fries at all.

"Well, as President of the Fast Food Secrets Club I'll tell you guys exactly how to make Five Guys fries."

Jordan then cuts to himself looking rather scholarly, book and pen in hand and glasses on his head.

He goes on: "The type of potato they use is called Boardwalk style fries [using Russet Burbank potatoes] or you can get restaurant fries. One pound of that is $3.

"And then this is the actual recipe for the seasoning... have fun and save some money. Get as many fries as you want."

Jordan says the seasoning recipe is:

  • Half a tablespoon of sugar
  • One teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • Half a teaspoon of salt
  • Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
  • Half a teaspoon of onion powder
  • Half a teaspoon of dried oregano
  • Half a teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • Quarter of a teaspoon of black pepper
  • Quarter of a teaspoon of ground thyme

Jordan's followers were hyping the man up for his recipe goodness.

One said: "This man must be protected at all costs."

A second posted: "Out here doing the Lord's work."

A third said: "Not all heroes wear capes."

Some posted in the comment section saying that while the recipe sounded excellent, it wasn't quite right. One said: "There is no seasoning made for their fries. they are salted or put in Cajun seasoning."

Another worker stressed the importance of making sure you spin rinse your fries 'until the water runs clear' to emulate the fast food giant's chips.

LADbible has contacted Five Guys for comment on its pricing structure.
