Woman's 'no booze method' over 365 days might actually be easier than Dry January

Bridget Stangland has come up with a savvy alternative to giving up booze for the first month of 2024.

After a slew of Christmas dos, family gatherings and a New Year's revelries, a lot of us can't stomach the thought of booze come January.

But committing to 'Dry January' is also a daunting prospect too, as you've got to be prepared to swerve the pub with your pals, choose water over wine and abstain from (bearable) partying for over four, long weeks.

However, one savvy woman has came up with a 'one week no booze method' which she will follow over the next 365 days - and even though it's longer, it somehow seems easier and simpler than dodging the drink for just one month.

Bridget Stangland, from Nashville, Tennessee shared a video on TikTok detailing her alternative to Dry January, which gives people an entire 12 months to work with rather than just 31 days.

Take a look here:

As a lot of people fall off the sobriety challenge towards the end of the month or simply return to their own habits on 1 February, she reckons this could be a less complicated technique which also boasts 'better results'.

Introducing the concept to her followers, the 31-year-old said: "The one week no booze method is taking one week off of alcohol each month and at the end of the year, it results in three months of no drinking."

Bridget told social media users: "For those who want to go a little bit bigger, you can do two weeks each month and at the end of the year it results in six months of no drinking. That's half the year - major, major results.

"I started this because I realised as I was getting older there were still so many occasions where alcohol was involved and I realised it doesn't serve me to have it all the time. I like taking breaks, I feel amazing, I don't have brain fog, I sleep well, my skin looks better. So I thought why not make a small change that results in this major impact."

Bridget's idea has proved a hit with social media users looking for an alternative to Dry January.

So, basically, by taking it a week at a time, you can s**t all over Dry January while still cutting your drinking down - just not for an entire month at once.

The content creator said that she started with one week without alcohol as her initial target as it 'felt easy' and achievable for her, but she gradually began to take longer hiatuses.

"Sometimes I go longer each month, sometimes I just do the one week it all really depends on how I'm feeling and what's happening in my life," Bridget said, while encouraging others to try and implement the 'new healthy habit'.

She revealed she had spotted a gap in the market for a new reduce-your-booze-intake concept as she realised the way that most people touted being teetotal was 'very black and white'.

The TikToker continued: "It's either drinking or not drinking at all. I wanted to share something where you can create healthy habits that don't need to be so drastic.

Avoiding the booze for one week every month has a better pay off at the end of the year.

"You get to see how it makes you feel and then chase the good feelings," she smiled.

Bridget claimed that people have told her they are sleeping better and have saved some serious cash while shedding some serious weight thanks to her 'one week no booze method', which apparently makes the abstinence a lot easier.

"It's the best method, I love sharing this tip. It's a fun challenge to do," she added.

People online loved it too and took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the 'one week no booze method'.

One said: "I like this! I always do Dry January but might try this instead."

Another joked: "Not me unintentionally doing this because I don’t have plans."

A third wrote: "This is such a great idea & a good way to make sober-curious more approachable then cold Turkey."

A fourth chimed in: "I started with a week and now it’s been 10 weeks and I’ve never felt better. My chronic anxiety has calmed right down, sleeping better and down 8lbs."

And a fifth added: "I can never commit to forever and THIS I feel like I can do!!"

Cheers to that. With the 0% alcohol stuff, of course.
