These days there are plenty of websites to help people find a place to stay, whether you're looking to kip on someone's couch while you travel around or need new flat after your housemate ditches you for their girlfriend.

Well, one house hunter in Australia has been caught out after they got a little creative with the truth by claiming to be 'single' while searching for a new abode.

Unsurprisingly, the lad's girlfriend wasn't too impressed.

Posting in the Facebook group Adelaide Rental Property, he wrote: "Looking for a room in Northern suburbs.

"I work full time and have great references. I'm single and I'm drug/alcohol free. Willing to pay up to 200 a week (bills included)."

The 'single' lad's girlfriend wasn't pleased with his post.

And it didn't take long for his missus to get wind of his lies, calling her partner out just 20 minutes after the post went up.

She wrote: "Umm what the actual fuck babe?! Since when were you single and needing somewhere to live huh?

"What a great boyfriend you are... Just remind me again who the selfish one is."

But she wasn't done yet and went in hard on her lying boyfriend. She added: "It seems that it's you not me considering I'm the one out there trying my hardest to find us and my three kids a house to live in and you have the audacity to put this up without a thought of us."

It won't come as too much of a surprise when we tell you that after being rumbled the bloke's request was very quickly deleted.

The lad was looking for a place to stay in Adelaide, Australia.

But like anything on social media, it's never truly gone, and the awkward exchange was copied and shared on the Shit Adelaide Instagram account.

Blurring out the names of the people involved, the account posted a screenshot of the post with the caption: "Names redacted so that we don't air the dirty linen of those that so openly air their dirty linen..."

In response to the cringe-worthy post, one follower wrote: "The fact you have to write 'drug and alcohol free' like it's a given everyone else isn't!!!!"

A second person said: "Why do I suddenly want to join Adelaide Rental Property to see what happens next??"

While another joked: "I am invested in this now.. like will he find a house? Will he continue to use some single mum? Is this 'Just a test cos he really loves me' .. find out on the next episode."
