Idris Elba Reveals He Has Tested Positive For Coronavirus

Actor Idris Elba has revealed he has tested positive for Covid-19, saying on Twitter he has no symptoms but has been in isolation after suspecting he may have been exposed to the virus.

The star shared a video update on Twitter, writing: "This morning I tested positive for Covid-19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus.

"Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I'm doing.

"No panic."

Fellow celeb Tom Hanks recently revealed that he and wife Rita Wilson have also tested positive for the virus, saying in an update on Facebook that they are 'taking it one-day-at-a-time'.

Elba's news comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged everyone in the UK to avoid 'non-essential' contact with others, along with 'unnecessary travel'.

Johnson also encouraged workers to work from home 'where they possibly can', and to ideally stay away from pubs, clubs, theatres and social venues.

Warning that 'drastic action' was needed, Johnson said people are now being advised to stay at home for 14 days if they - or anyone in their house - has either a high temperature of a new and continuous cough, both of which are symptoms of the virus.

For now, schools will remain open, with Johnson adding: "Our intervention should be timely to have the right effect.

"We are keeping all measures under review.

"We think under balance at the moment it is best to keep schools open."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has also said the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the UK now sits at 53, an increase of 18 from yesterday.

Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, explained that the measures will go on for a 'prolonged' amount of time, saying that it would not be a case of this period of caution lasting for 'a few weeks'.
