Fate the Winx Saga season 3: Release date, theories and cast news

Fate: The Winx Saga just wrapped up its highly-anticipated second season with one of the most explosive episodes the series has seen so far.

The coming-of-age Netflix drama tells the story of six fairies as they learn to navigate their powers, love lives and the occasional war with scary, mythical creatures - no biggie though, they’ve got it all under control.

The hour-long season finale threw us revelation after revelation, with some making sense, while others left fans scratching their heads.

First of all, how can Bloom be that old? She needs to drop her skincare routine ASAP because her complexion is glowing, even after 1,000 years. Yeah, you read that right, she’s one thousands years old

Then there was the battle involving Sebastian, Sky and Beatrix which led to a pretty unfortunate ending. But the final cliffhanger was what really got fans talking (warning: major spoiler alert!); how could they end it with Bloom coming face-to-face with her birth mum?

With all that drama dropping at the end of season 2, fans are now anxiously waiting for the announcement of season 3.

Here’s what we know so far.

Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 release date

So far, Netflix has kept pretty quiet when it comes to an official renewal, but EW recently published an interview in which showrunner Brian Young revealed that the ‘goal’ of season 3 would be to delve deeper into the Realm of Darkness and "how it connects to our big overall mythology".

Young said: “The goal is to answer what is the Realm of Darkness. How is Bloom and her mom connected to it? Also, how it connects to our big overall mythology, which we sprinkled in a little bit of in season 2.”

So… does that mean we’re getting a season 3? Only time will tell at this point but it’s looking highly likely. If the announcement for season 2 is anything to go by, we should be hearing about it in the next few weeks.

What will season 3 be about?

As mentioned previously, it seems as though the writers are going to finally give us the answers to Bloom’s family history, especially with the introduction of her birth mum. And in a major revelation during the EW interview, there might also be a few new characters on the horizon too.

When asked about the potential of meeting Beatrix's sisters, Young said: “We haven't started talking about season 3 yet, but it is my intention very much that we will see the Trix. That's a core part of the cartoon that we always knew we'd see at some point in the show. I would say if we get a season 3, expect Icy and Darcy.”

It’s also highly likely that we’re also going to be getting more details on the Realm of Darkness and how it operates.

So who’s going to be in it?

If we do get another season of the show, we’re expecting the main characters to make an appearance.

The list currently includes:

  • Abigail Cowen as Bloom
  • Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella
  • Precious Mustapha as Aisha
  • Eliot Salt as Terra
  • Elisha Applebaum as Musa
  • Paulina Chávez as Flora

And of course, we can’t forget about the other good guys, can we?

  • Robert James-Collier as Saul Silva
  • Danny Griffin as Sky
  • Freddie Thorp as Riven
  • Leah Minto as Kat

But we’re also expecting to see some new faces, especially if we’re delving deeper into the Realm of Darkness but we’ll just have to wait to find out.

Fate: The Winx Saga is available to watch on Netflix.
