An unseen woman can be heard saying: "You know how happy and proud we were to have you on NBC this season and we are even happier to say that we would love to have you back next season."

The people in the room erupted in cheers and applause, with Terry Crews seen jumping to his feet with excitement and Andy Samberg pounding his fists on the table.

The news has rocked social media, with fans probably more excited than the people on the show.

One person wrote: "At one point I wasn't even sure we'd get a season 6, now we get a Season 7. I couldn't be happier, this truly is one of the best shows around.

"Thank you NBC, without you, we would have already said goodbye to this amazing, amazing show."

When the show was taken on by NBC, no one knew what was going to happen.

The legendary series was dropped by Fox on account of struggling viewers numbers and NBC said it would produce one final season to wrap up the show and make everyone happy.

Clearly the content has been good, as has the feedback from viewers, so why not keep the Nine-Nine train running?

It'll be interesting to see whether the new season will make way for the return of fan favourite Chelsea Peretti, who plays Gina Linetti.

She said her goodbyes during the sixth season, leaving left viewers in bits - with many taking to Twitter to share their feelings.

One person tweeted: "Definitely, what I will miss most is the partnership between Gina and Holt. How they, in their way, helped and respected. They gave me a lot of fun and I hope they interact again in their upcoming appearances."

Another commented: "As heartbreaking as that was. Gina said her goodbyes in beautiful, funny, very 'Gina' ways which made that episode so so special. we love you @chelseaperetti and we'll support you on your journey like I'm more than sure the precinct will for Gina."

The hashtag #ThankYouChelsea started trending on Twitter as fans used it to reach out to the star and share some of their favourite 'Gina' moments with her.

Could she come back and some more awesomeness? Only time will tell on that.
