Facebook To Celebrate Star Trek's 50th Anniversary With New Like Buttons

As today is the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, Facebook has launched a new set of 'like' buttons to celebrate.

The reactions buttons replace the usual Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry emojis and feature most recognisable characters and symbols from the sci-fi saga.

The Love button becomes a Vulcan salute. The Haha button features Captain Kirk. The Wow reaction becomes Mr Spock. The Sad icon is represented by Star Trek: The Next Generation's Geordi La Forge. Completing the lineup is angry Klingon Worf, also from The Next Generation.

Sadly for us Brits, the Star Trek-themed reaction buttons are only available for a short time to fans in the US and Canada who have shown an interest in Star Trek or sci-fi on the social network.

"We may test experiences like this in the future, and will focus on community and moment-driven events like this one,' said Facebook Messenger's marketing lead Lindsey Shepard.

"This project has truly been a labour of love. We hope that people find as much joy in using these different celebratory elements as we have in creating them."

Hopefully this means we'll see more themed 'like' buttons in the future. How about some Star Wars ones ahead of the next movie?
