Netflix Users Have Streamed Half A Billion Hours Of Adam Sandler

Just let that sink in.

He gets a lot of stick, but Adam Sandler isn't that bad. There, I said it.

Little Nicky, Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore, they were good films, weren't they? It's not just me who thinks that, is it?

IMDB gives Happy Gilmore a solid seven out of ten - that's the same as Thunderball, the original Mad Max or The Mummy. And 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

What I'm less impressed with is The Ridiculous 6-era Sandler and I'm definitely not alone in that.

The Netflix-tie-in Sandler is not great and the fact that we have come to expect so much from him, just makes it worse.

By comparison, The Ridiculous 6 has an IMDB score of 4.8 and somehow zero percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

And so, to Netflix's first quarter earnings, which were released with the news that Netflix subscribers have been watching half-a-fucking-billion hours of Sandler. Or 29 million hours a month, if you prefer.

The statement reads: "Since the launch of The Ridiculous 6, Netflix members have spent more than half a billion hours enjoying the films of Adam Sandler." I think 'enjoying' is a bit of a stretch.

That means that my fellow Netflix subscribers have clocked up 20.8million days of Sandler (that's probably the title of a movie in the works) between December 2015 and now. At this point, I would like to add that I have contributed absolutely zero of those hours.

Sandler signed a new four-picture deal with Netflix. In a statement, the streaming giant said: "Just ahead of the release of our third film from Adam Sandler, Sandy Wexler, we announced the renewal of our deal with Sandler to premiere an additional four films exclusively on Netflix around the world. We continue to be excited by our Sandler relationship and our members continue to be thrilled with his films." Netflix subscribers will be pleased.

When faced with criticism about his latest films, Sandler told the Press Association: "I know what they're going to say to every movie - they're going to say they don't like it.

"We'll be OK. I believe in my stuff. That's important to me and my friends and the people I make the movies for."

"I like them, that's the good news," he added.

Ah, well, good. Tat's the main thing, Adam.
