If your a fan of the game then there's no doubt you're excited for The Witcher, but what exactly do you know about the Netflix series?

We've scoured the internet to find out everything we can regarding the upcoming release, which is set to be an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowsk novels rather than focusing on the video game storyline.

The plot

Sapkowski has written tons of Witcher material over the last 30 years, so without official confirmation it's pretty hard to pin down which stories Netflix have chosen. However, comments from two executive producers suggest the show will focus on the saga which tells the tale of the Geralt's relationship with Ciri, which we think is a pretty good choice.

Sean Daniel and Jason Brown said: "The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can't wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling."

Also, Sapkowski has confirmed that he will take on the role of creative consultant for the show, so expect the adaptation to closely resemble what's in his books.

"I'm thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing," he said.

Characters

The shows runner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, posted a line of tweets which confirmed multiple characters for the series. Here they are:

Geralt:"Stoic. Circumspect. Balanced. Fierce. Soft-and-squishy-in-a-tiny-place-in-his-heart-that-he'll-never-reveal-until-maybe-the-end-and-even-then-it-will-just-be-a-hint."

Yennefer: "Fiery. Proud. Shrewd. Contradictory. Seeking-to-fill-a-family-sized-hole-in-her-heart-even-though-she-resents-it-and-swears-she's-just-fine-on-her-own-but-she-is-not-and-we-love-her-for-being-both-independent-and-vulnerable."

The Witcher

Ciri: "Resilient. Relentless. Brazen. Growing. She's-going-to-change-the-world-and-what-the-hell-is-she-supposed-to-do-except-be-scared-and-be-bold-and-learn-and-adapt-and-find-a-family-who-can-walk-by-her-side-no-matter-what-and-maybe-just-maybe-teach-her-the-meaning-of-love."

Roach: "Ladylike. Faithful. Extrasensory. Steady. Really-annoyed-with-this-game-because-we-can't-pretend-all-Roaches-are-the-same-so-she'd-prefer-some-singularity-and-individual-recognition-instead-of-all-being-lumped-together-by-blatantly-horsist-people."

Emhyr, Dandelion (known in the books as Jaskier), Borch Three Jackdaws, Milva, Regis, Triss Merigold, Vilgefortz, Cahir, and Leo Bonhart, will also be making an appearance.

Casting

No actors have been announced so far, but we know the process is well underway thanks to even more tweets from Hissrich.

She started off by saying "It's Friday night in LA, and it's been a seriously great week here at #Witcher. So. Let's talk casting. Yes, I said the magic word! Casting is starting soon, and no, I can't tell you who our top picks are so don't ask. But. There is something very important you need to know."

Hissrich doesn't actually reveal who's in the running, but she shares their clever attempt to stop spoilers from leaking onto the internet.

"The writing staff has instead created entirely new scenes for our main characters. These are written to illustrate the precise tone, vibe, depth, and emotional resonance we need from Geralt and friends... but voila! They are spoiler-free, for us and for you."

Although we won't know what the show will be about, if these tapes do leak online we would have a better insight on who could star in the series.

One fan thought Mads Mikkelsen would be a perfect fit for the role, and made this trailer to show why.

Filming Location

This one will be short and sweet.

All filming has been confirmed to take place in Eastern Europe. Hissrich announced it "couldn't exist anyplace else. Period," due to the fact the novels were originally set in Poland.

Release Date

Producers have promised that the show will be made as quickly as they can, and Gamesradar said Hissrich has a target date of 2020.

The narrative arc for Season One has been finalised and it's possible the show already has their ideal actors in mind, so actual filming might not be too far away.

She said: "We're moving quickly ahead with everything -- like, my head is spinning around Exorcist-style, except with enthusiasm, not evil possession -- but one thing is certain: quality comes before speed."
