Matt Damon isn't just soaking up the sights, sounds and smells while he's in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder.

The Hollywood star has recently been very generous while attending a charity event for an Australian domestic violence organisation.

He was one of many people who rocked up to the Safe Haven event at the Calile Hotel in Brisbane over the weekend.

While having him there was an incredible moment for the charity, he also made a sizeable $10,000 donation to help them with their vital grassroots campaign work.

A woman who claimed to have also been in attendance and is the daughter of the charity's founder revealed in a Reddit post about the 50-year-old's generosity.

The post added that Damon and his wife were 'genuinely interested' in the issue of preventing domestic violence.

Safe Haven tweeted a message of support and thanks to the Damons for rocking up and injecting some star power to their cause.

"We had a great function today. Such a great success on so many levels because of the contribution of so many wonderful people, and then this generous person turns up to put the icing on the cake. Thank you Matt Damon," the charity wrote.

Matt wasn't the only big name at the 200-person event, with TV host Julia Zemiro, Queensland Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman, Maroons coach Paul Green and Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner also in attendance.

Damon's contribution helped Safe Haven raise an impressive $169,000.

Executive director of the organisation, Jaeneen Cunningham, told the Courier Mail that Matt and his wife wanted to educate themselves about issues on coercive control.

"He took the time to call in and have the lunch, and he was fantastic," she said. "I spoke to his wife and she said it was a fantastic thing that we were doing and they were more educated after the event."

Safe Haven offers 'fully supported, community-based temporary accommodation for women at risk of domestic abuse'.

They ensure the women who stay at their housing are given a 'nurturing and supportive environment' that is 'free from fear, and physical, financial, emotional, verbal, sexual or spiritual abuse'.
