Ricky Gervais is promising the third season of After Life will include one of the funniest scenes yet.

The comedian says work is still underway on the new instalment and the script isn't fully completed.

However, he has explained how audiences will no doubt be laughing until they cry for one bit in particular.

Ricky said on Twitter: "I've just written a 1 minute scene for #AfterLife3 where Brian tells the receptionist a joke that I know will be impossible to get through. 20 minutes of outtakes guaranteed. Can't wait."

Considering how the first two seasons have been, there is no doubt the comedian will give us the goods for the third and final bunch of episodes.

Speaking to The Sun, Gervais said: "I've already made my mind up - there just won't be a fourth.

"You never say never but you put those things out there to make you remember because it's tempting, it's very tempting."

Likening his job to a conductor leading an orchestra as his back is turned to the audience, Gervais added: "The audience think they want another one but they don't know, they're not sure, so you've got to be careful."

The series sees Gervais take on the role of Tony, a man who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife, while also attempting to improve his relationships with the other - crucially, alive - people in his life.

While Gervais has ruled out a fourth instalment, he has previously admitted he felt surprised by the public's ongoing love to the show.

He told LADbible: "I've never had a reaction like this, so there is that [sense of] 'Oh, I could only ruin it', you know what I mean? So you've got to try and make it better.

"Which is good, it's a good state of mind to be in, it's a good pressure. I've got to make this better than before - that's a lovely pressure to have as a writer.

"That's not a reason not to do a second series because the first one went down so well... Most people want it the other way - they want too many series because they think it's their favourite show.

"I get that, as a viewer I get it, but as an artist you have got to get out a bit early. But as I say, this is the first one I've - I think I'm gonna do a third because the world we've created is too good and rich."

Gervais has been giving us hints the script writing is coming along nicely so we'll have to sit and wait until the new season is upon us.
