Netflix’s most expensive movie ever now officially has a release date – and we don’t have too long to wait. Check out a teaser for The Gray Man in the compilation below:

The project was announced back in 2020, when we learned that Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans would be starring in the 007-like action thriller.

But what really grabbed people’s attention is the fact that the film has a budget of $200 million (£158.2m), marking the streaming platform’s most expensive flick to date.

Although production faced delays due to Covid, it’s now been revealed the feature is set to drop in selected UK cinemas on 15 July before releasing on Netflix on 22 July.

And if that wasn't exciting enough, the film is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, aka the Marvel masters who brought Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War to the world.

This is just one of many details that show The Gray Man has all the makings of the next big movie franchise.

Ryan Gosling is playing a leading role in Netflix's upcoming The Gray Man.

Based on the book series by Mark Greaney, the plot sees Gosling portray a skilled CIA mercenary who accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets.

When a psychopathic former colleague (Evans) puts a bounty on his head, it sets off a global manhunt led by international assassins.

Popcorn at the ready, eh?

Apparently the big screen adaptation has been in the works for years, with Brad Pitt originally set to star in it.

That iteration never got off the ground, but that’s all changed with the news of the spy-thriller’s upcoming release.

Chris Evans will portray the film's villain.

Joe Russo previously spoke about the project, comparing Gosling and Evans’ on-screen chemistry to that of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro's in Heat.

In a red carpet interview with Variety for the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the filmmaker said: “It's fantastic, it's electric. It's also been a long time since we've seen a movie like this.

“We have two big movie stars going against each other to the tradition of like De Niro and Pacino in Heat.

Joe Russo says it's "electric" to see Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans together on screen in his new action movie #TheGrayMan: "It's in the tradition of De Niro and Pacino in 'Heat.' ... It's a deliciously sociopathic turn for Chris Evans as the villain." pic.twitter.com/rovivuBYZ3

“This is an intense action film. Very, very entertaining performances from both actors, and they're absolutely pitted against each other in the movie.

“And it's a deliciously sociopathic turn for Chris Evans as the villain. He does [make a good sociopath], it's quite entertaining. So I think it's gonna be a lot of fun.”

As well as Gosling and Evans, the cast includes Ana de Armas of No Time To Die fame, Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page, Narcos stalwart Wagner Moura and the Bad Santa himself, Billy Bob Thornton.
