Netflix has released the trailer for the much anticipated second season of Top Boy, which will return to the streamer with eight new episodes on 18 March. You can check it out below:

The next season will see Dushane (Ashley Walters) on a solid run, having won the war against the young pretender Jamie (Micheal Ward), leaving his Summerhouse crew unrivalled and making more money than ever.

Things are going well with Shelley (Simbi ‘Little Simz’ Ajikawo) too as he's allowed to dream of a future away from the road.

However, events take a turn for the worse when a problem from an unexpected quarter threatens to cause everything to come crashing down.

As well as the return of Walters, Ajikawo and Ward, Toy Boy season two stars Jasmine Jobson, Lisa Dwan, Kadeem Ramsay, Saffron Hocking, Jolade Obasola, Hope Ikpoku and Araloylin Oshunremi.

New cast members include Josephine De La Baume, Howard Charles, Ava Brennan, Erin Kellyman, as well as rap and grime artist NoLay and Adwoa Aboah, marking her acting debut.

Netflix

This will all be welcome news to fans of the show, which quickly became a favourite among audiences when it was revived on Netflix in 2019.

Originally broadcast on Channel 4 in 2011, the programme follows a group of characters living on a fictional housing estate in Hackney named Summerhouse, focusing on a group of residents involved in drug dealing and gangs.

Billed as an 'honest look' at inner-city gang culture, the first season was a hit with viewers, meaning a second followed two years later.

Despite its popularity, Channel 4 cancelled the show in 2013, leaving audiences devastated - that is, until Netflix picked it up again six years later with the help of fan and executive-producer Drake.

In case you're not up to scratch, Netflix decided to call its first run of the show season one, and it renamed Channel 4's original two seasons Top Boy: Summerhouse.

So while the new episodes are technically a fourth season of the show, they're season two of Netflix's Top Boy. You with me? Good.

Anyway, all you need to concentrate on is the fact that eight new episodes are coming to the streamer this month - 18 March, get it in the diary.
