Pete Davidson’s ‘8418’ Tattoo Has Heartbreaking Story Behind It

The 28-year-old SNL star has around 100 tattoos, with some carrying particularly special meanings

Pete Davidson has a tattoo of the number ‘8418’ and it turns out there’s a heartbreaking story behind it.

As you know, the comedian has a lot of tattoos and last year he announced plans to have many of them removed, stating, “I've made a lot of questionable choices.”

But while some of his 100+ tats are a little frivolous, others have a special meaning behind them - particularly his ‘8418’ one, situated on his left arm.

The 28-year-old SNL star previously revealed that ‘8418’ was actually the badge number of his father, Scott Davidson, who was a firefighter and died during September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Davidson was just seven years old when it happened, and is something he’s opened up about in the past.

A couple of years back, he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! show where he revealed he and his mother, Amy Davidson, had made a donation to Answer the Call in his dad’s name.

The comedian said: “Answer The Call is the fund that helped my family when my dad passed.

“It helps for firefighters and EMS workers that passed away in the line of duty and it helps out their families.”

In a separate interview, he said: “I don’t let a lot of people know about my dad dying on 9/11. It’s not a way to introduce yourself.

“So I never told anybody, and then I would do jokes about it and I think people thought I was lying about it. Which would be crazy!”

The ‘8418’ tat isn’t the only ink job in tribute to his late dad – as well as an 11 on the backside of his left ear, he’s also got a firefighter tattoo on his bicep.

Davidson previously said it would take years to have all of his tattoos removed.

Appearing in a Smartwater advert last summer, he can be seen sitting in a chair pretending to get the ink lasered off.

"I've made a lot of questionable choices, and a couple of them need removing," the comedian says to the camera, as a woman works on removing ink from his left arm.

"But now I'm trying to make smarter choices, hydrating with Smartwater and stuff like that."

Speaking to PeopleTV as he launched the new ad, Davidson said that - in real life - it's actually been 'about four or five months' since his last session.

"We're shooting some stuff and it takes like a month for it to heal. But like it's pretty much off this hand," Davidson said, holding up both hands to show off the faded ink.

"I get my next treatment [in] like a month or so. They said by the time I'm 30, they should all be gone. So they got like two more years left of this."

Davidson is currently dating Kim Kardashian, with the pair getting together after the reality TV star's very public separation from Kanye West.
