Princess Fiona turns into royal headache for Shrek 5 as Cameron Diaz's return looks doubtful

All might not be so well in the swamp right about now.

Everybody's favourite green ogre Shrek is finally returning to the silver screen, with the whole original cast set to come together for another crack at movie glory.

But, as Shrek and his cronies are abuzz, preparing for us to revisit the swamp and the broader kingdom of Far Far Away, there is one royal headache that could blow the whole thing out of the water.

Yep, the iconic royal-turned-ogre that is Princess Fiona, played by Cameron Diaz, might be the only glaring omission from what promises to be an all-star reunion.

Sources close to Diaz have told the Sun and the Daily Mail that Diaz is ready to throw in the towel once again, after previously retiring from Hollywood to live the quiet life with her husband, Benji Madden, and daugther Raddix, aged 3.

So if Diaz decides to give acting the old heave-ho once again, Princess Fiona's inclusion in the long awaited for fifth Shrek film now is marred with a rather large question mark.

"These back-to-back 10-hour workdays have been a lot on her and she hates being away from Raddix," the pal told Daily Mail.

"Cameron loves being a mom more than anything in the world."

The source added: "She hates drama and confrontation. This is why she retired from the business in the first place. She has already proven herself in the industry and has nothing left to prove to anyone."

She told Yahoo Finance Presents that she feels like she’s already given her acting career her all.

"It’s just a different time in my life now," Diaz said,

"Now I’m here and this is the most fulfilling thing that I’ve ever done in my life. [To] have a family and be married and have our little nucleus of a family. It’s just completely the best thing."

She added: "I don’t have what it takes to give making a movie what it needs to be made. All of my energy is here."

He continued: "And then you’re hard at work to build story elements and new characters that take you to brand new places. The original cast is a huge part of that.

As for the rest of the cast reprising their roles in the land of Far Far Away, Illumination Entertainment founder and CEO Chris Meledandri has revealed the expectations for the upcoming film's cast.

"We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return," Meledandri told Variety.

Cameron Diaz was approached for comment on this story.
