Since the beginning of Euro 2016, weekday 2pm kick-offs have become the bane of our lives.

It doesn't really matter who's playing, international tournaments are all about getting down to the pub, having a pint with the lads and enjoying a great summer of football. How the fuck are we supposed to do that if we're in work?

The problem is multiplied now, as England take on British rivals Wales this afternoon, with kick-off at... yep... 2pm.

If you've used up all your holidays, haven't given enough notice, or simply can't get the time off on a technicality, can you still watch the football?

Speaking to the Mirror, Shakespeare Martineau employment lawyer Chris Kisby says that basically, no, you can't. However, you can make a case to your boss that something as patriotic as the Euros can help build employee relationships.

He said: "A blanket refusal may be counterproductive. Euro 2016 might be an opportunity to improve employee engagement and productivity by allowing staff to watch or listen to matches."

You could also use flexy time (if you can) or request to work from home.

If you do book time off and honestly admit that it's so you can watch England, your boss is highly likely to give you the time off - if not, they could be sued.

Shakespeare Martineau's Kisby told the Mirror: "If you allow time off, don't limit your approach to England supporters. Apply it to all nationalities to avoid potential discrimination claims."

Alternatively, you could watch it under your desk on your phone.

This solution is one you could actually consider. If you check your contract terms, it may be possible for you to stream the football at your desk, given that you don't completely slow down the company's computer system, and lose all productivity.

We sincerely hope that you somehow get to watch it.

Enjoy it lads!
