Squid Game Creator Sends Warning To Viewers Who Don’t Use Subtitles As Season 2 Is Announced

Squid Game Creator Sends Warning To Viewers Who Don’t Use Subtitles As Season 2 Is Announced

English-speaking fans are able to watch a dubbed version of Squid Game if they don't want subtitles

The second series of the hugely popular Netflix show Squid Game has been announced, but its creator has issued a warning to fans when it comes to getting the most out of viewing.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that Squid Game took the world by storm when it was first released in September 2021; all the TikTok videos, tweets and recreations of the deathly Red Light, Green Light game will do that for you.

What you might not yet have heard, though, is that the show is set to return for its second series, with an announcement video released by Netflix indicating the killer Red Light, Green Light robot will be also be back to try and catch any minute movements.

In a statement commenting on the arrival of the new series, writer, director, producer and creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk wrote: "It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.

"As writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shoutout to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show."

The original audio for Squid Game is in Korean, but Netflix allowed English-speaking fans to watch either a version which had been dubbed, or one with subtitles. There are also two subtitle options available, "English" and "English [CC]", the first of which is subtitled based on the original audio while the latter is based on the dubbed audio.

Following the release of the first series last year, Hwang entered into the debate as to whether it was best to watch the dubbed or subtitled version and issued a warning over how the choice may impact fans' viewing of the series.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Hwang said: "Please watch the subtitled one. If you don't see the acting, the performance from the real actor, then you are not seeing anything. You are missing the most of the Squid Game fun."

A release date for the second series of Squid Game has not yet been announced, but Hwang confirmed both Gi-hun and the Frontman would be making a comeback while 'the man in the suit with ddakji might be back'.

We're also set to be introduced to Young-hee's boyfriend, Cheol-su.

"Join us once more for a whole new round," Hwang added.

If the popularity of the last series is anything to go by, I don't think it will take much convincing!
