Californian man travels 5,000 miles from US to Nottingham chippy for heartbreaking reason

It was so good he crossed a continent and ocean for it

A man travelled thousands of miles to visit a fish and chip shop, and the reason why is heartbreaking.

If you travel up from Nottingham to the village of Huthwaite you can find a place called the Chip Inn, and it must be a damn good place to get food because one bloke journeyed for over 5,000 miles just to go there.

The Chip Inn often posts on Facebook about the customers who've come from afar to try its food, but recently it served a man who'd journeyed all the way from California.

It explained that the man and his friend had decided during the coronavirus lockdown they'd one day travel over to the Chip Inn and have some of its scran once they'd retired, but sadly the man's friend had died.

Deciding to make the journey solo as a homage to his friend, the man was pictured smiling at the Chip Inn counter while showing off his food order.

The bloke seemed very happy with his bountiful feast, and you'd hope so considering he'd crossed the North American continent and the Atlantic Ocean just to be there.

A comment from Peter Cogan, who appeared to be the chap himself, made it clear he was very happy with his trip to the Chip Inn.

He said the food was 'bloody marvellous' and thanked the establishment for the hospitality, saying he 'happily paid full price'.

Cogan also gave a shout out to the customer after him in the queue who gave him a lift back to his hotel and saved him from having to book a taxi on the return trip.

All in all it sounds like he had an utterly brilliant time and the Chip Inn can claim that its food is good enough to cross a continent and an ocean for.

As you can imagine, the man's pilgrimage to the Chip Inn was immensely popular as plenty reckoned he was an example of 'true friendship'.

Others said they hoped he'd been given the meal for free, but if Cogan really is the man behind the magnificent 5,000 mile journey then he said he was more than happy to pay for his food.

Many more said they'd like to visit the Chip Inn themselves, including a prospective customer who said they were from Chicago but would love to find themselves in Huthwaite one day.

Given how people come from far and wide for this place it seems to be quite the attraction, so if it's good enough for someone who journeyed over from California you might want to pop in to the Chip Inn.
