The price of Mini Eggs has shot up in supermarkets across the nation and Brits are calling the unexpected mark-up ‘daylight robbery’.

One customer shared a photograph of a £19 bag of security-tagged Mini Eggs on X, formerly Twitter, alongside the caption: "They better hatch dragons for £19."

Another agreed, as they were also shocked by the massive price tag. "£19 for Mini Eggs, security tagged," they wrote. "Is there a picture that sums up the state of modern Britain more?"

Over on TikTok, Brits are just as horrified. User @JUDVH is the latest to take to the social media platform in outrage after spotting that a 270g bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs had risen to £4.85 at Sainsbury’s this year (that's about £1.80 per 100g).

By comparison, a 1kg bag from Amazon costs just £14.99 (£1.50 per 100g).

In the viral clip, the TikToker says: “Cadbury’s [sic.] and/ or Sainsbury’s, you ill-mannered troglodytes. £4.85 for a 270g [bag] of Mini Eggs. Once upon a time, these were Lindt prices and even they've only just gone up to £6. Maximum, these should be £1 to the 100 grams. Your inflation does not add up.”

In a follow-up video, he shares that Tesco has also notched their prices up for a family pack of Mini Eggs to £5.50 (or £4.85 with a Clubcard).

The Mini Egg saga has spurred mass support online with customers joking they plan to ‘boycott’ the likes of Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose over the rising price of Mini Eggs.

One social media user wrote: “For £4.85, they better hatch and lay more Mini Eggs.”

Another joked: “Apparently you can get mortgage advice when buying these.”

Where to buy the cheapest Mini Eggs this year

If you're looking for the most cost effective way of buying Mini Eggs, you're better off buying in bulk. Shoppers have spotted a 1kg pack on Amazon for just £14.99 which works out considerably cheaper at £1.50 per 100g (although the price might depend on your shipping location).

At the time of writing this, the cheapest 80g bag we could find online is available for £1.49 at Aldi, followed by £1.64 at Asda, and £1.85 at Waitrose.

According to iPaper, the price of an 80g bag of Mini Eggs shot up from £1.25 to £1.50 between 2023 and 2024 across supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco, and Morrisons. For price comparison, an 80g bag now comes in at an average of £1.85 in 2025 (equivalent o £2.31 per 100g).

What has Cadbury said about the price hike?

Last year, a 1kg pouch of the Cadbury chocolates ranged from £9 to £11.50. Now? You’re looking at at least £15 per bag. At Waitrose and Morrisons, a 1kg bag of Mini Eggs costs £15. You're also looking at £15 at Cadbury, £14.99 on Amazon, and a slightly lower price of £14 in Tesco.

LADbible contacted Cadbury for a comment and the team responded: "We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face and raising prices is a last resort for our business. However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and dairy, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously. Meanwhile, other costs like energy and transport also remain high. This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges."

“As a result, we are having to make some carefully considered list price increases to our Cadbury Mini Eggs so that we can continue to provide consumers with the brands they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect.”

Sainsbury's has been contacted for a comment.
