A homeowner in London has filmed themselves feeding an albino squirrel that stumbled into their garden.

It's a condition that affects around one in a million of the rodents and, as such, means they are incredibly rare, with only around 50 in the UK.

The footage was filmed in Sutton on 8 December, and shows the white animal scurrying across a garden table and taking seeds from the person's hand.

Despite their incredibly low numbers, this isn't the first time these striking creatures have been spotted in the wild.

Back in 2018, a father-of-two captured remarkable pictures of a rare albino squirrel scavenging for food in his back garden.

Simon Pimblett, 53, was stunned when he spotted the cheeky white critter raiding bird feeders and snacking on the seeds.

He snapped a series of images of the squirrel using a Nikon D3 camera which he set up on his kitchen table of his home in North Dulwich, London.

Simon, a finance researcher for a wealth management firm, first saw the squirrel two weeks ago but finally managed to catch it on camera on Saturday 10 Feb.

Simon, who lives with wife Caroline, 54, a dietician, said: "We live in South East London and we get a fair amount of wildlife in and out of our back garden even though it's quite small.

"Squirrels are not usually at all for anyone in London, but about a fortnight ago, this white squirrel appeared.

"I set up my camera on the kitchen table just in case it came back because each time I ventured out into the garden it took fright and dashed off.

"Finally, on Saturday morning, perhaps it was so cold, it got bold and adventurous and came right into the garden and spent a good 15 or 20 minutes looking for food.

"It's very shy, very timid and we ever got was very brief glimpses of it, but I grabbed the camera and took some shots.

"It came really, really close, I was indoors shooting through the patio door windows and it came right up to the windows.

"It was bold as brass, but since then we haven't seen it, but I know it's around somewhere."

While down under a rare albino magpie was discovered living in Tasmania at the Trowunna Wildlife Park.

Operations manager Darren Rumble told the ABC: "It was found at the base of a tree with no possibility of getting back to the nest. As soon as we had the bird brought in, we knew we'd be taking care of him for his whole life - if we let him go, he won't last more than a day.

"He'd be a prime target for crows or any other bird of prey. He is a genuine albino and the statistics around a genuine albino magpie are around one in a million."
