The actor Christopher Plummer has died aged 91, his family have confirmed.
His career spanned seven decades and he is best known for playing Captain John Von Trapp in 1965 musical The Sound of Music.
The Canadian passed away peacefully at his home in Connecticut with his wife of 53 years Elaine Taylor by his side.

Lou Pitt, his long-time friend and manager of 46 years, said in a statement as per Deadline: "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humour and the music of words.
"He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."
Plummer won an Oscar for his portrayal of Hal Fields in Beginners, as well as two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a British Academy Film Award.
