International DJ Erick Morillo has been found dead, Miami Beach Police have confirmed. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently unclear.

The 49-year-old was arrested last month and accused of sexual battery on a woman in December.

A spokesperson for Miami Beach Police told LADbible: "The Miami Beach Police Department is investigating the death of Mr. Eric A. Morillo (DOB: 3/26/71).

"We received a 911 call this morning at 10.42am to 5660 La Gorce Drive. Detectives are currently on scene and in the preliminary stages of the investigation."

Local 10 reports that Morillo denied the battery accusations made against him. He turned himself in to police with his lawyer after results of a rape kit came back and tested positive for his DNA. He was due to appear in court on Friday.

At the time, Erick's lawyer told Page Six: "Mr Morillo's arrest is based on an incident that occurred back on December 7, 2019.

"Since then, Mr Morillo has fully cooperated with the police. It is important the public understands that the police report contains mere allegations and Mr Morillo is presumed innocent.

"There is more to the story than what is in the initial police report, and I look forward to sharing this evidence as I defend Mr Morillo in court. Our system of justice requires that an accused is treated fairly and with due process.

"Mr Morillo will be exercising all of his constitutional rights and I am confident when all of the evidence is presented in this case, justice will be served, and Mr Morillo will be vindicated."

Morillo was a DJ and music producer, best known for his electro-dance hit from the '90s called 'I Like To Move It', but he was also well-known for his international work in house music.

His label Subliminal Records produced the #1 Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play hit 'Fun' by Da Mob and he was a three-time winner of DJ Awards 'Best House DJ' in 1998, 2001 and 2003 and a three-time winner of 'Best International DJ' in 2002, 2006 and 2009 receiving a total of 15 nominations in all from 1998-2010.
