The fried chicken giant wasn't pulling any punches

With some of the most popular fast food joints closed for the foreseeable, supermarkets have moved in to offer customers their DIY takeaways - so we can enjoy our favourite meals from the comfort of our own homes.

But if we're honest with ourselves, they're just not the same, are they? So when Iceland decided to promote their range of fried chicken, the folks over at KFC were having none of it. At all.

The budget supermarket released an advert on its Instagram stories, which showed a variety of products, from chicken poppers and chips, to sweetcorn and chicken strips.

It read: "Missing KFC?"

However, after spotting the cheeky dig, the Kentucky Fried giant nabbed a screenshot and posted it to its Twitter account, with the caption: "This is why my mum goes to Tesco."

Ouch.

Since it was shared, the post has received more than 14,900 likes and has been retweeted over 1,700 times.

The savage takedown has been a hit with fans, who piled into the comments to share their admiration.

One person joked: "As if they have the herbs and spices formula pffft."

A second put: "How dare they try to replicate the wonders of KFC. Damn heathens."

While another added: "Disrespecting KFC like that smh."

And there were plenty who were impressed with whoever is in charge of the chicken chain's social media accounts.

One wrote: "Bold strategy doing brand management from your iPhone."

While another commented: "I love whoever admins this account."

However, if the admin is going to insist on using their phone to carry out attacks on other brands, one follower had a little piece of advice.

Adding: "Charge your phone admin."

If you do want the real thing, though, and don't rate your own culinary skills, you're in luck. Earlier this month, KFC announced it was reopening a select number of stores during lockdown.
