A heart surgeon has given us a simple four-point guide to follow to ensure that we steer clear of any big issues as we age.

You know what they say, easier said than done, but it's very easy to forget about your future-self when you're out and about enjoying your weekend and life around you.

However, if you're not careful, too much of a care-free attitude could cost you your long-term health and a lot of hassle in the future.

Dr. Jeremy London, MD, is a heart surgeon that often shares medical insights and advice through social media, boasting almost 400,000 followers on his TikTok account.

His most popular video currently has 30.8 million views, and it gives viewers three main reasons to avoid vaping for their own health, similar to his latest viral clip.

With over 7.4 million views, this video is titled 'four things I absolutely avoid as a cardiac surgeon,' as the professional goes into detail over why you should do the same as him.

He might know a thing or two, to be fair.

Smoking

This was always going to be on this list, as Dr. London explains: "No question the single worst thing you can do for your entire body, [it] destroys your lungs, causes lung cancer, high cardiovascular risks, heart attacks and strokes."

We've been aware of the long-term effects of smoking for a few decades now, so it's no surprise that the heart expert has zeroed in on the bad habit.

Alcohol

Apologies lads, this one might hurt and even the doctor feels bad, as he 'hates to break it to you', but adds: "[It's] toxic to every cell in your body - your body, your rules. You decide for yourself.

"For me personally, removing alcohol from my life is probably been one of the most transformative decisions I've made as an adult - all the cool kids are doing it," he concluded.

It can be very damaging not just to your liver, but to its surrounding organs, while also increasing the risk of developing certain types of cancer.

Soft drinks

Admittedly, this one also hurts, but it makes sense after Dr. London called it 'liquid death', simply stating: "Just don't drink them, period. Done."

It might be time to wave that energy drink fix goodbye, and to all the Rum and Coke lovers out there, this is a massive double-whammy.

Breads and pastas

This might be the hardest, seeing as it's a couple of the most common foods eaten by the general population, while the whole world eats 'refined flours and wheats', which the expert says to steer clear of.

He continues to explain: "80 percent of weight control is diet, 20 percent is exercise,

"I guarantee you you can out eat any exercise that you do, so be conscious about what you're putting in your mouth," he concluded.

It might be a case of cutting this down, because a life with no bread and pasta might be hard for many to become accustomed to.
