The Victorian state government has declared a 'Code Brown' for all Melbourne metropolitan hospitals as well as six hospitals in regional Victoria.

It's a fairly serious situation that could see healthcare workers have their leave cancelled to ensure staffing levels remain high to combat the threat of the Omicron variant.

Despite it being a dramatic declaration, it sparked a load of jokes on Twitter, with people thinking a 'Code Brown' meant something else.

'Engadine Macca's' started trending on the social media site and everyone was saying the same thing.

Engadine McDonald's has been a pain in Scott Morrison's backside for 25 years.

There has been rampant speculation that the Prime Minister pooed himself in 1997 at the Macca's in Sydney after the Cronulla Sharks lost the Super League Grand Final.

He finally cleared up the speculation last year by telling Kyle and Jackie O it was 'the biggest urban myth ever, it is complete and utter rubbish'.

"I found the whole thing incredibly amusing, I always joke about it amongst our team here as we've driven past it on occasions and I say 'do you want to pop-in for a Big Mac'," he said.

"It is absolute and total rubbish. Some of the funniest yarns are the ones that aren't true and I think that's one of them."

While it's always hilarious seeing Engadine Macca's trending online, having a Code Brown declared is a pretty confronting situation.

Medical facilities in Victoria are buckling under the pressure of the Omicron wave of coronavirus.

A 'Code Brown' indicates there's an 'external emergency' affecting the hospital system and they need 'additional capability and capacity needs to be mobilised', according to Sky News Australia.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of hospital staff who are isolating at the moment due to having Covid-19 or being declared a close contact.

The declaration will give health services the power to cancel planned leave for staff, redeploy workers to areas that are needed and defer non-urgent services, according to News Corp.

The hospitals included in the Code Brown are all hospitals in the metropolitan area of Melbourne, as well as at Barwon Health, Grampians Health, Bendigo Health, Goulburn Valley Health, Albury Wodonga Health and Latrobe Regional Hospital.
