Stuck for a Halloween costume this year? Hey, you could always dress up as the fly that landed on Mike Pence's head.

'Wait, what fly?' I hear you ask. Well, during the debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence earlier this week (8 October), ahead of the US Presidential election, a fly settled on the Vice President.

That's not a euphemism and it immediately seemed to become a major talking point. Social media was literally filled with screenshots of a fly that landed on the Vice President's head while he was speaking.

Unsurprisingly, canny opportunists are already trying to capitalise on the moment - it could mean you have the option of a brilliant Halloween costume.

One company has managed to produce an outfit to make you look like Mike Pence with a fly on your head. It's impressive because 3wishes has managed to put this together less than 24 hours after the debate.

Admittedly, you'll have to pay US $49.95 (AUD $69 / £39) for the privilege.

The description on the website states: "Look fly and steal the spotlight at your next party with this Debate Fly Wig, perfect for when being a fly on the wall just won't do!

"You'll want to get caught in the crossfire with this special item featuring a deluxe, high-quality silver white wig with an attached, oversized black fly and Flag lapel pin included!"

And they're not the only ones getting involved.

Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden's team unveiled a branded fly swatter that figuratively flew off the shelves. Shortly after the debate, the product wound up online and it sold out within hours.

The swatter had the slogan 'Truth Over Flies' and the team sold a whopping 35,000 units.

Biden campaign merchandise director, Zach McNamara, said: "We saw the internet and our supporters sharing a viral moment online, so our digital team came together on the fly."

The team wanted to show that 'Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will always choose truth over lies, science over fiction, and unity over division'.

Biden's campaign has even set up flywillvote.com in the wake of the debate, just to make sure they're really milking everything they can from Flyfacegate, as this will no doubt be known as for generations to come.

Donald Trump's former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway also jokingly suggested the fly should be given a mail-in ballot - referencing the postal votes that the incumbent president has vocally opposed.
