In this era of living in a pandemic, it's handy to have a couple of washable face masks for when you step outside.

Depending on where you live, the coronavirus could still be a massive threat or it could be a little more relaxed.

But if you want to mix personal protective equipment with the highest of high fashion then Louis Vuitton has the answer for you.

The luxury label has released plans for 'an eye-catching...both stylish and protective' face shield that has all the trimmings you'd expect from the LV brand.

But there's a price to be paid for such luxurious protection.

The company says this beautiful specimen will set you back a cool USD$961 (£749/AUD$1,319). If you have a spare couple of hundred dollars lying around and you still want to look fabulous at your brunch date then you finally can.

Say goodbye to the days of placing pleb plastic around your noggin to protect yourself against a virus and say hello to an elastic monogrammed strap and golden studs emblazoned with the LV logo.

According to Vanity Fair, this shield will actually serve two purposes. It can be flipped upwards to make a peaked hat and comes with transition lens technology that will change the way you see depending on the amount of sunlight available.

The face shields are expected to be released next month.

The company has been doing its bit to help in the fight against the pandemic, with Louis Vuitton repurposing several of workshops in France to 'produce hundreds of thousands of non-surgical face masks' for healthcare workers.

But if you thought forking out $961 for a face shield was expensive, then clearly you haven't heard about the face mask that costs a hell of a lot more.

Indian businessman Shankar Kurade got a custom-made gold mask for a whopping £4,000 (USD$5,130/AUD$7,45), which weighs roughly 60 grams.

It took craftsmen eight days to create this incredible little piece of protective equipment.

Kurhade said: "I love gold and I am very happy with wearing this mask. It is a thin mask and has tiny holes so I am not facing any problems with breathing."

The 49-year-old businessman from western Pune city is known for his obsession for the yellow metal and never steps out of home without his flashy pieces of jewellery that includes an enormous bracelet, a thick chain around his neck and rings on all of his right hand fingers weighing more than one kilogram.
