Cronulla Sharks forward Toby Rudolf has come under fire for producing a 'sexist' remark during a post-match interview.

The NRL player was in high spirts after his team beat the Dragons 32-18 over the weekend and Fox Sports asked him how he was planning to celebrate.

Without skipping a beat, Rudolf said he was keen to knock back around 1,000 beers and go out with the boys.

But it wasn't his alcohol consumption that was the problem, it was what he said next.

He said he was planning to 'go to Northies, try and pull something - anything will do', which raised a few eyebrows at the time.

Rudolf finished it up with: "No, honestly, it's all about recovery these days. I'll be going straight home, straight to the ice bath and staying very, very quiet."

After being called out for being sexist, the NRL has handed down its decision.

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo told AAP: "I was very disappointed with Toby's comments, they were inappropriate and should not have been said.

"We are going to issue Toby with a formal warning and I know the club are going to counsel him so there is not a repeat.

"Respect for women is one of the foundations of our society and our players, as role models, need to be leaders in this area."

The Sharks have reportedly told Rudolf about the importance of correct behaviour and setting a good example for people across the community.

The club is refusing to comment further on the matter, but 7News says additional education will be offered at the Sharks to ensure comments like these aren't repeated.
