He's officially leaving the swamp! A Shrek-theme burlesque show is set to hit Australia later this year, proving that sexy is definitely in the eye of the beholder!

Although 'Shreklesque' has been around for a few years, Australia will finally be able to experience the ogre in tights with the production heading to Sydney's Enmore Theatre in June.

After making its pit-stop in Sydney, the show will head to Launceston, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne before performing shows in New Zealand in July, with the Oceania tour wrapping up in mid-July in Darwin.

The show, of course, is a parody of the 2001 Dreamworks animated film and has a stellar cast who will bring the film's beloved characters to life on stage, which include:

  • Trigger Happy as Shrek
  • Selin Tian as Princess Fiona
  • Henny Spaghetti as Donkey
  • Tugboat Tiffy as Gingerbread Man
  • Bebe Gunn as Dragon
  • Baron von Envy as Magic Mirror
  • Barbie Banks as Pinocchio
  • Rainbow as Lord Farquaad
  • Indea-Rose Sekula as Robin Hood
  • Rosi Rawdog as Fairy Godmother
  • De La Vinx as Swing

In 2021, the show's producer, director and Shrek actor Ben Trigger shared on his Instagram that 'they're beyond thrilled to be able to share Shreklesque with audiences far and wide'.

Trigger told The Examiner that he first was inspired to write the show while needing an extra act in another production he and his friend were working on at the time.

When first touring the show, Trigger was shocked by the it's critical reception as it began selling out quickly.

"I thought to myself, 'okay this has legs on it'," he said.

He also added that the show is loosely based on the original film while blending all different kinds of genres.

"It's a mix of burlesque, drag, musical theatre, and comedy, with everything all in one," he said.

"It's an interesting thing to do. A lot of people ask why do I love this so much and why does it work, and it's because of (the connection to the audiences)," he said.

"It's stupid, naughty, and funny."

So, if you want a chance to see this whimsical parody live show, make sure you get in now, as tickets are selling fast!
