Queen Elizabeth II is set to give her son Prince Andrew a Platinum Jubilee medal for his lengthy service to the public.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed the Duke of York will be bestowed with the medal in honour of the Queen's 70 years on the throne, which will be in June next year.

The award is 'purely commemorative' and they are handed out to members of the British Royal Family even if they don't perform public duties.

The Daily Express reports medals will be given out to several relatives as well as 400,000 members of the Armed Forces, frontline emergency service workers, and prison services who have completed five years of services.

Prince Andrew hasn't performed public duties on behalf of the family since 2019.

The step down came after his 'car crash' Newsnight interview which saw him attempt to draw a line under his relationship with the dead paedophile, who died in prison two years ago.

News of the medal being given to Prince Andrew comes as he's currently facing an investigation into claims he sexually assaulted Virginia Roberts when she was a teenager.

Legal papers were sent to the Duke of York earlier this month in relation to the lawsuit. Representatives for Prince Andrew originally claimed the papers weren't served properly, according to the MailOnline.

The Hague Convention states the team representing Giuffre must serve the papers to Andrew in person, but the legal documents that have been filed in the USA allege that they were served to him in the proper fashion under UK law.

However on September 22, lawyers for the royal family member finally accepted he legal papers. This means the Duke of York has 21 days from receiving the papers to respond to them.

Sources close to Prince Andrew told the MailOnline he has accepted 'the inevitable' but intends to 'come out fighting'.

The allegations have been made against Prince Andrew, 61, by Virginia Giuffre who says she was loaned out to the royal family member at the age of 17 by Epstein and his alleged 'recruiter' Ghislaine Maxwell.

Prince Andrew has denied all of the sexual assault allegations against him vehemently and consistently, and has previously claimed he has no recollection of ever meeting Giuffre, now 38.
