Nation Will Be Getting Four Days Off To Mark Queen's Platinum Jubilee

There will be a four-day bank holiday weekend to mark the historic occasion

This year marks the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year where we will be given a four-day bank holiday weekend.

Not only are many people going to be off work for four days but we're also being urged to throw the biggest ever thank you party for Her Majesty.

We doubt that'll be difficult for many.

Apt representation of some reactions.

The royal extravaganza includes a live pop concert at Buckingham Palace, a carnival pageant on the streets of London, Jubilee lunches, and the lighting of beacons across the world.

The double bank holiday will be held on Thursday 2 June and Friday 3 June meaning that those with weekends off work will be off for four days in total.

Celebrities Ross Kemp, Gary Lineker, Gareth Southgate, Levi Roots, Prue Leith, Alan Titchmarsh, Ellie Simmonds and Lorraine Kelly are among those backing the special Thank You Day on Sunday 5 June.

It is hoped millions will gather at street parties, host a Big Jubilee Lunch or get together around the county to thank the Queen for 70 years of service, but also to thank neighbours, family, friends, communities, the NHS and key workers for their support over the past year.

The unprecedented anniversary, the first time a British monarch has reached a Platinum Jubilee on the throne, falls today (Sunday 6 February) the date the Queen acceded to the throne on the death of her father George VI in 1952.

But, as has been the custom for Elizabeth II’s past jubilees, official commemorations take place four months later when there is a greater chance of warm, dry weather.

They're not daft, are they?

Earlier today The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall posted a message of congratulations to The Queen.

In the statement from Clarence House, they wrote: "On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the Realms and Commonwealth for seventy years.

"The Queen's devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year."
