The nights are drawing in, but things are about to get a hell of a lot brighter as Sunny D comes rocketing back into our lives. Yep, you heard right, Sunny D is still a thing.

If you’re a 90s kid like me, you’ll have cherished memories of your mum treating you to a bottle of Sunny D, or maybe you weren’t allowed it and had to sneak it into the trolley when she wasn’t looking. We’ve all been there.

For those who haven’t experienced the joy of downing a chilled bottle of Sunny D straight from the fridge, let me fill you in… Sunny D was (is) that magical drink which was essentially sunshine in a glass. It was one of those things you either loved to love, or some loved to hate. Sunny D even recently dug up some comments from the 90s, where one person said it tasted like the inside of a clown’s belly button. Haters gonna hate, I guess.

In the past, Sunny D wasn’t exactly the healthiest drink on the planet. Well, now it’s back and things are different. And guess what? Mum can't tell us what to do anymore, but this time, she might actually be on board, because the new Sunny D recipe is a game-changer. With 83% less sugar than the 2005 version, added vitamins, and just 20 calories per 250ml glass, it gives you the same cracking taste that’s better for you.

The fun doesn’t stop there, as Sunny D has teamed up with two '90s legends – Shaun Williamson (aka Barry from Eastenders) and Dave Benson Phillips (the fella from Get Your Own Back). These two are having a proper showdown to become the faces of the Sunny D brand and take us on a trip down memory lane.

Let’s be frank, us millennials could do with a bit of a pick-me-up. We can’t afford to buy houses because we splashed all our cash on avocados, and we're not even sure what's considered cool these days. So, pull up those low-rise jeans, and let’s head back to the glory days, when our biggest challenge was trying to get a slinky to go downstairs, making sure our Tamagotchi was fed and watered, or choosing the perfect ringtone to buy.

So, who will be the new face of Sunny D? Well, that’s up to you. ShaunyD and SunnyDave are going head-to-head in a social media battle, where you get to decide who best represents the Sunny D spirit.

In the hope of gaining a few more votes, ShaunyD has been posting videos of himself topless drinking a tall glass of sunshine, while SunnyDave is promising to come over and gunge your mum if she didn’t let you have Sunny D as a kid.

It’s giving that hit of nostalgia that we all need right now. So, forget the dark nights and the fact that you don’t really understand TikTok, and embrace the brand new, better than before, Sunny D, which is available from shops including Asda, Tesco and Iceland.

Have your say on the new face of the brand over on the Sunny D Instagram page and vote #ShaunyD or #SunnyDave.
