An investigation is underway after an Australian tourist was shot dead during a robbery inside a campervan in New Zealand.
7News reports the tourist and his Canadian girlfriend were sleeping inside their van at Raglan on the North Island when a stranger started banging on their window.
The stranger reportedly demanded the keys to the campervan and threatened the couple with a gun.
It's not known why the situation escalated, but the Aussie tourist was eventually shot dead.

The unnamed traveller's girlfriend fled in terror after the attack.
Waikato Police Inspector Graham Pitkethley said: "Waikato Police are responding to a serious incident they were notified of at 3.20am today on Whaanga Road, Raglan.
"Police have located a van that was earlier stolen and found a body of a man inside.

"Police believe the vehicle, a White 2017 Toyota Hiace ZL registration KWF362, travelled from Whaanga Road to Gordonton Road this morning."
The attacker drove the campervan 80 kilometres from where the couple was sleeping before authorities stopped him.
It was during this encounter that police discovered the body of the tourist.
Kiwi authorities are currently trying to contact the victim's family.
