The lawyer for the family of Brian Laundrie has slammed Dog the Bounty Hunter after he got involved in the search for Laundrie, who remains missing following the murder of his fiancée Gabby Petito.

Petito's body was discovered last month, by which point Laundrie had disappeared, telling his family he was going for a walk in a nearby nature reserve before completely vanishing.

After a while, Dog the Bounty Hunter decided that he'd jump on board to aid the search for Laundrie.

TV star he might be, but he's still a fairly successful bounty hunter, after all.

However, Steven Bertolino believes that the dog - the big bad dog - is just trying to reignite his own career and get himself a bit of media attention.

That's all up for debate, but Bertolino has some pretty strong views on the matter, it would seem.

He told TMZ: "Dusty relics like that Dog and John Walsh need a tragic situation like this so they can clear the cobwebs off their names and give their publicity-hungry egos some food."

John Walsh, by the way, is another American TV personality who is perhaps best known for fronting America's Most Wanted.

He also famously likes to get himself involved in investigating crimes and is known for being an anti-crime activist.

So, he's decided to get stuck into this high-profile case, as well.

Walsh reckons that Laundrie managed to somehow get to Mexico, suggesting that he's had 'a thousand solid tips' and said: "I mean, he could walk across the border naked with his hair on fire, and nobody would notice him.

"I think that's maybe where he's hiding - and somebody might be helping him."

As for whether the Dog and Walsh are actually doing more harm than good with their efforts, and whether they're actually maybe disrupting the efforts of the police, Bertolino was more circumspect.

He said: "That's for law enforcement to decide."

Either way, he's definitely not a fan, and - whatever they're up to - Laundrie is still missing.

There have been several suspected sightings of Laundrie in the weeks since he vanished off the face of the earth, but none have so far come to anything.

The search of the 25,000 acre Carlton Reserve hasn't turned anything up yet, and it's proving difficult.

Police are using human-remains searching dogs to scour the alligator-ridden nature reserve for anything they can find that might help them understand what happened to Laundrie.
