Have you ever spent absolute ages scrolling through streaming sites deciding what to watch?

Yes, you probably have.

A study shows that Brits end up spending more than 100 days a lifetime, deciding what TV shows or films to watch on the telly.

A sample of 2,000 adults showed that people typically switch from eight different TV channels when choosing a programme.

In terms of movies, we tend to flick between a further nine titles before making a calculated decision.

So, in total, the study suggests that adults take 55 days per lifetime to pick a TV show and a further 57 days to agree on a decent film to watch.

The investigation was commissioned by NOW and they found three factors that affect our decision making:

  1. The genre (41 per cent)
  2. The actors (37 per cent)
  3. The length of the film (28 per cent) or series (23 per cent)

Incredibly, 49 per cent say that because it's taking too long to choose something, they end up not watching anything at all.

I'm sure a few of us can probably relate to that one.

The study also suggests that 67 per cent of females are more likely to stop sitting on the fence and selecting something to view.

Jamie Schwartz, a spokesman from NOW, said: "With the busy lives we lead, we want to make sure we are watching the best that TV has to offer but can often feel overwhelmed by the amount of choice."

Four in 10 say that having titles suggested for them would make the decision a bit easier.

You'd also have to take into consideration that maybe, mum and dad don't like watching the same thing.

Mum might want to watch Love Island and Dad wants to watch something else because he's too embarrassed to admit his love for the dating show.

There's also a case for the typical 're-watch shows', where viewers just end up picking their faves instead.

Special mentions for the most re-watched TV shows were Only Fools and Horses, Gavin & Stacey and Game of Thrones.
