In news that will be particularly relatable to some readers, a man has crashed his car when he panicked after finding a spider.

The driver, who was in a Citreon Saxo, was driving on the A50 in Derby when he took his eyes off the road - it's reported he was trying to catch a rogue spider, before accidentally ploughing straight into a car that was in a lay-by.

Police posted the photo of the cars, both of which were completely wrecked. The stationary car also had someone sat in it, with both drivers suffering minor injuries.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "A50 Westbound on Sunday. No doubt some of you got caught up in the tailbacks from this collision.

"Silver car driver trying to catch a spider whilst driving collides with red car in lay-by. Minor injuries. Reported for driving without due care and attention."

No thanks.

Of course, social media users jumped right on it, with one replying: "Hope the spider was OK?"

Another person wrote: "That's a terrible shame. I hate spiders too. This is a big fear of mine when driving. Glad everyone is OK. I pity the arachnophobe."

A third reader commented: "I like the cause of accidents being reported like this - helps people understand how easy they can happen. Explaining how more serious accidents have occurred would be good education too - maybe unpleasant, but would help people understand realities and in terms of roads they know."

Other people were less sympathetic, as one person said: "If he so stupid as to try to catch a spider & cause that amount of damage to both vehicles, he is too stupid to be allowed to continue to drive. Due Care & Attention doesn't even begin to approach the imbecility."

Whereas another person thought that however scared of the creepy little fellas you are, you have to face your fear when you're on the road, for the greater good. They replied: "Spiders freak me out and plenty have appeared over the years while driving, but seriously you have to brave through that s*** when you're on the road."
